Retaining Wall
When contemplating making some changes in your yard, you may consider adding a Hardscape Walls. But what kind of wall do you need? Retaining and Freestanding Wall are your options, and both serve different purposes.
A Retaining Wall is a strong structure that is made to keep a hill, slope or mound of earth in place. Retaining Walls use footing to hold back soil and keep the wall standing. Retaining Walls can be of any height but are usually higher than 3 feet. You may need a retaining wall if your home is on a hill and you want to extend your yard.
Adding a Small Retaining Wall (or we called "Garden Wall") also provides depth to your yard, making the addition of attractive plants or even water features extra special. Garden Wall are low walls, usually about 18-24 inches in height, that line a landscape feature. The Garden Wall acts as a division between the installed feature and the rest of the landscape. But please note that Garden Wall are not meant to withstand the weight pressure of heavy, packed earth. Topsoil needs to be relatively light and can be supported by a Garden Wall.
Meanwhile, the Freestanding Wall provide visual interest to improve the aesthetics of a space or simply just to break up a space. Freestanding Wall can also serve as seats, perfect for spectators of backyard bocce ball tournaments or visitors enjoying tea at garden parties.
